Ancient Civilization: Egypt

Egyptian history was full of monuments, color, and decoration. Religion and the afterlife played an important role for the Egyptians. Their designs were incorporated into the tombs of the powerful rulers or kings. In addition, they would store all of the deceased belongings with them in their tomb. Egypt was a very dry place which kept these paintings and artifacts in tact. A famous tomb is the tomb of the twins, Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep, which revealed a symbolic painting of the twins in which interpreted the twins to be married.(below) Another important ruler of Egypt was King Tutankhamen. After hundreds of years, his famous child's chair was still in tact. In today's world we see many aspects of Egyptian history in our homes or commercial areas. For one the decorative paintings we still use in design. Also, the Egyptians introduced us to different colors such as royal blue, gold, and red. Their designs have astonishing detail that normally we don't see very much today.

  1. Great overview of the Egyptian history. I like how you posted information that was not on our lecture note, but from our book. I also like the background image.

  2. The story of the two twins is very interesting. A tomb can be an art piece as well by its appearance and the story behind it. Any painting, sculpture, drawing etc, has meaning and a story behind it, just like a tomb. Tombs carry a lifetime inside them which is simply a piece of art. The fact that it had a painting of the twins to go along with it, make it even better. In addition, it is very exciting that such a ruler as King Tutankhamen can leave behind a piece of furniture for us to view today. Being able to have these items from so long ago, gives designers inspiration for today.
